“Indirectly this Conference will form the germ of a Native Parliament and, if properly conducted, will constitute in a few years an unanswerable reply to the assertion that India is still wholly unfit for any form of representative institutions.”
General Shah Nawaz Khan said to Indira Gandhi, “In case no satisfactory response is received before 21 February 1983, we shall be constrained to launch a civil disobedience movement in collaboration with other like-minded secular forces.”
At a session of the Bengal Provincial Conference held in Barisal in April 1906, under the Presidentship of Shri A. Rasul, a brutal lathi charge was made by the police on the delegates and volunteers and the Bande Matram badges worn by them were violently torn off.
Responding to this need, Abdul Shaheed Khan, an alumnus of MAO College Aligarh from Meerut, opened a small stationery shop in 1925, named this establishment “Educational Book House”, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Aligarh’s literary landscape.
