Nehru could be saved by the brave effort of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan when he threw himself over Nehru and took injuries on himself. Khan received fractures in two of his fingers, serious injuries in nose, skull and shoulder and had to be admitted in the hospital.

In all probability, this was one of the earliest examples of sensationalism in the journalism practised in India. The fact that nobody took this claim seriously, not even a huge band of the critics of Sir Syed and Aligarh took this up can be used as an argument against the truth in this allegation.
